  1. (continued) act weird and generally stoic like that. The Runaways gave her acting a better chance to breathe.

  2. Pretty much exactly what I felt about it. I feel bad for KStew though. Her acting in Twilight is actually good…I’ve read the books. That’s…just how Bella acts. It’s hard to tell because she’s such a non-character, but it makes me feel like she’d

Good point.  I mean, it’s not like she’s got a lot to work with playing Bella.  It’s hard to really convey ‘wet piece of cardboard’ without your eyes going permanently dead.

I got all points possible for my paper on anti-intellectualism. My teacher’s response:

justsoelmo:

“Great job choosing a controversial topic that lent itself well to argument.  You did a great job incorporating your sources and examining the sides of the dilemma.”

I have more Star Wars opinions for Kevin but his assbox won’t let me share them

So here are some of them:

I don’t think we can knock something for using tropes (at least not the non-racist/shaming/idiotic ones) - almost every single storytelling device is a trope.  The ‘tropes’ - or more accurately the ‘archetypes’ - included in Star Wars have existed in human culture since the dawn of storytelling, something Joseph Campbell pointed out to us in the 40s and others have built on since.  What SW did was to codify, simplify and popularize a hero journey by combining it with hitherto unseen technology, multiple story genres and setting it in a science fiction world.

And please notice I specifically used the term ‘helped’ - SW helped, Blade Runner helped, 2001 and Star Trek and every movie ever made out of a Jules Verne book all helped create and push along the science fiction boom of the 70s and 80s.  It almost single-handedly created the ‘summer blockbuster’, which might not be the most aesthetic Hollywood product but is certainly the most profitable, most technologically-innovative.  It spawned a cultural lexicon, a missile defense system, a religion and real life technology (remember the holographic news reports from the last election?), not to mention fans in the billions all over the world who must be identifying with something in the source.

Knock the writing all you want - Lucas is no Willy Shakes, though I think Kasdan was an improvement for V and VI - but I still think credit should be given.

(Star Wars - I haz feelings)

Only on one condition: You be my nerdy/awkward/bff sidekick, and go get a Xander-esque person to complete the circle.

DONE

only on the condition that I’m allowed to verb nouns

and we’re gonna need someone British to add sobriety and make entomological puns

justsoelmo asked: I live in a trailer, and somehow wasps are getting in. I haven't figured out how yet. Currently, I have slayed every one of the mother fuckers that come in here. Armed with hairspray and tp. Fuck yeah. Kevin the Wasp Slayer.

omg Kevin do not let them win

if they win they will think they can just come in anywhere those bastards

we will have an epidemic of cocky ass wasps on our hands and then what, I ask you, then what

the collapse of civilization, that’s what, because those bastards fear nothing and recognize no law

justsoelmo asked: I am also an archer. In fact I was the go-to guy to train what's-his-name for the Avengers movie...I'm lying. I shot a bow and arrow once at boy scout camp and it stuck in the ground a few feet from me...

I often mistake my time spent at camp for training as an assassin with an elite federal agency …

so your confusion is understandable.
